Moez Sanaa

Moez Sanaa is a food safety and risk analysis expert and the founder of the International Food Risk Analysis Consortium (IFoRAC). He previously served at the World Health Organization, where he led scientific initiatives supporting international food safety risk assessment and capacity building in risk analysis.

Earlier in his career, he held scientific positions at ANSES in France and at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, contributing to the development and application of modern approaches to chemical and microbiological risk assessment. He has also provided extensive scientific input to risk assessment work supporting the European Food Safety Authority.

His work focuses on dietary exposure assessment, quantitative risk assessment, and integrated risk–benefit analysis linking food safety, nutrition, and sustainability. He has contributed extensively to international scientific advice processes supporting the Codex Alimentarius Commission, including expert bodies such as the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) and the Joint FAO/WHO Meeting on Pesticide Residues(JMPR). More recently, he has contributed to work of the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Meeting on Microbiological Risk Assessment (JEMRA), including modeling approaches for Listeria monocytogenes to support international risk management.

At the QMRA workshop, Moez will present key concepts and practical applications of quantitative microbial risk assessment, dietary exposure assessment, and probabilistic modeling, illustrating how integrated risk analysis approaches can support evidence-based food safety decision-making and regulatory policy.
