William Chen

William Chen is the Michael Fam Endowed Professor and Director of the Food Science and Technology Programme at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He also serves as Director of the Singapore Future Ready Food Safety Hub (FRESH) and the Singapore Agri-food Innovation Lab (SAIL), where he leads initiatives focused on advancing food safety, food innovation, and future-ready agri-food systems.


His work focuses on food technology innovation, food safety, and food security, with a strong emphasis on translating scientific advances into practical solutions for the agri-food sector. He regularly advises universities, government agencies, and industry partners, and collaborates with international organizations including the Asian Development Bank and the World Health Organization.


At the QMRA workshop, Professor Chen will share insights on emerging food technologies and their implications for food safety and risk analysis, highlighting how innovation and advanced scientific approaches can support future-ready food safety systems and evidence-based decision-making.
